REVIEW OF CARIBBEAN CROSSROADS by CONNIE SOKOL

New college grad Megan McCormick just got dumped. Hard.

Swearing off men and relationships, Megan is coaxed into performing on a cruise ship where she meets the star performer, Bryant Johnson. Handsome and charismatic, he looks like trouble, but she can't deny the intense attraction between them.

Urged to find a wife and run the family lumber business, Bryant is torn between his family's expectations for his life and his own. However, when he meets spunky, but love-skittish Megan McCormick, settling down doesn't look so bad.

Just when Megan begins to trust again, and Bryant makes some big decisions regarding his future, her former fiance returns with a malicious surprise, taking Megan and Bryant to their own CARIBBEAN CROSSROADS.

Not being a dancer and having never been on a cruise ship to anywhere, CARIBBEAN CROSSROADS, was a fun glimpse into a new adventure for me. I enjoyed getting to know Megan and Bryant, both good people being pulled in different directions for many reasons. I am partial to a story where a man is loyal to his family as well as to the woman he loves.

Bryant is refreshing. He truly is the total package: handsome, charismatic, loyal, kind, reliable and wants to be Megan's friend. Bryant treats Megan well, in spite of the extremely mixed signals she sends him.

Megan is a little stuck while trying to re-build her trust in men and her self-confidence. She has some trouble getting out of her own way. Many readers will relate to her struggles and if they share her issues, may find some good solutions to battle their own fears and come to their own rescue.

When the dream summer cruise ends, I enjoyed reading as Megan and Bryant juggled their long-distance relationship, their well-intentioned friends and family, job responsibilities, and struggles with their own personal dilemmas.

Review of "The Kindling" by Braden Bell

“The Kindling” by Braden Bell is a great story that can be enjoyed by all and is sure to become an instant hit to middle-graders.

How great would it be to summon supernatural powers by embracing the things you love, whether that be quoting lines from your favorite play, singing a favorite song or even by solving pre-algebra problems?

Sixth grade for Connor, Lexa, and Melanie is proving to be far more interesting, as well as far more dangerous, than any of them had ever imagined. When the threesome ‘Kindle’, they have to learn how to control their magical powers in addition to navigating the usual junior high pitfalls: hard subjects, demanding teachers, bullies, acne, and peer pressure. Add battling Darkhands, traveling through the Otherworld, and a trip to Disney World and there is a recipe for lots of fun and adventure.

Along with learning to control their new powers, Connor, Lexa, and Melanie learn about themselves, each other, the power of good friends and family, and that doing the right thing is often not easy, but is always necessary.

What’s not to love? It has everything: Magic, friendship, and lots of adventure. I highly recommend this fun read and look forward to the further adventures of Connor, Lexa and Melanie.

SUPER SWAG SUNDAY!!

Hi Everybody!!

A friend is running a week long party to win free books and swag (bookmarks, buttons, stickers, etc) from 34 authors--including me. Please pop on over her blog and check it out! It started yesterday and runs through this Sunday, June 10. It's a fun way to spend a few minutes and grow your kids' reading list.

Summertime is all about going places with great friends and how cool is that we can take a vacation for a few hours in a good book? Some of my best memories are being curled up with a great book and being transported to a magical world where I met interesting people doing incredible things.

Come on over to Laurisa's blog and make a few more friends. :)
